Hello and welcome to my blog. My name is Laura and I am happy to share with you recipes and stories from my Mother’s Kitchen. I was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley by two loving parents and grew up with four older siblings. After having been away from my hometown for many years, I have returned to my childhood home — the only place I have ever considered home.
In my parent’s home is a warm and cozy little kitchen with turquoise countertops that have always reminded me of the color and beauty of both Mexico and Spain — the homes of my ancestors. It was in that kitchen that my beautiful Mom spent countless hours preparing some of the most delicious meals. Her recipes were both traditional and unconventional. But, they were always made with one essential ingredient: Love. Mom understood that even when you could not afford the fanciest kitchen equipment or the finest ingredients, a lovingly prepared meal would always taste delicious.
My beautiful Mom is no longer here to make the meals that I still crave, but my attempt to recreate them is a tribute to her memory and a sincere attempt on my part to once again capture the joy and nostalgia that she always brought to our kitchen.
So, welcome to my blog. It’s a privilege to have you visit. You are a welcome guest. This blog is just a small part of who I am and a hopeful journey for me to become my Mother’s daughter, not just in the kitchen, but in life.
Thank you for getting to know me and I hope I can get to know you as you share your thoughts and comments. Maybe one day we can share a meal together and a story or two, right here in my Mother’s Kitchen.
